Connecting Plder Peripherals With USB Serial Adapters

February 20, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

What exactly do the terms usb rs232  mean? By now, everyone who owns a computer knows what a USB slot, or port is for. This port is used to connect a variety of devices such as printers, mouse, keyboard, external hard drives , cameras, and music players to the computer. However, the older style serial port, is still required by many devices such as modems, serial printers, PDAs, and cash registers. Unfortunately newer computers rarely have serial ports, and for this reason you may require a USB to serial adapter to use your new computer with your older peripheral device. One of the most common serial port settings is R232, and USBR to 232 adapters exist to turn a single USB slot into as many as sixteen different serial ports.

The fact that most computers today have no serial ports, and that very few computers with serial ports have more than one or two, makes the usb serial  adapter a necessity for anyone who has older peripherals like printers and other devices. This is true of many of us, since we tend to replace computers more frequently than printers, modems, and the like.

In fact, many users need a number of both serial and parallel ports on their desktop computers or laptops, and for these users who have to work with multiple interfaces, a pci serial  card is a simple and flexible solution. Plug one of these devices into any cardbus slot and you have all the ports you need.

New brand of Ultrabooks

February 19, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Ultrabooks are new thin and light weight laptops with very powerful processors. They are less than one inch thick and provide the ultimate comfort in portability. The recently completed Las Vegas Electronics Show showcased many of the new products. The drive behind the new Ultrabooks is the continued consumer demand for an alternative to the current uncomfortable tablet that you carry everywhere.

The new Ultrabooks (name trade marked by Intel) can handle online gaming and video editing, and provides relatively long battery life that could last up to eight hours on a single charge. Intel’s Rapid Start proprietary flash memory chips in Ultrabooks keep it to chips true name. However, if you play lots of music and carry DVDs, you may want to stick with your current laptop.

Due to flash memory, instead of a hard drive, Ultrabooks may be giving up some capacity. However, they are fast and more durable compared to hard drives. Another disadvantage is that most of the Ultrabooks do not provide for a CD or DVD capabilities. But you can add a portable drive to supplement the short coming.

Initial pricing is higher than your standard laptop. As always, prices will come down with the time.

Getting IT support in Los Angeles

February 12, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Choosing IT support Los Angeles providers can be quite a headache at times. There are hundreds of providers with different packages and pricing.  They range in size from one man operations to mega firms with hundreds of employees. The trick in choosing a good provider is in having the right balance in pricing, products and customer service. Firms with a wide range of services and goods may charge a premium for it while the struggling two man partnership down the road maybe good in customer service but have a limited range of service support.

Customer service should be a determinant factor in choosing a provider. For example when picking computer networking Los Angeles service providers, look closely into how they treat customers. From the moment you call their offices to the moment you sign the contract papers, look at how you have been handled. Does the phone get promptly answered? Did your emails get answered within a day? Did the receptionist give you a seat? How long did you wait for the guy in charge? These and other indicators are what can give you an inkling of things to come.

There are several computer support orange county providers and they all have different pricing. The planned budget should be a guide to the kind of provider you are looking for. If you can afford it go for a big firm with a lot of experienced people. If the budget is limited and moderate, it would not hurt to give those fresh from college guys a try.

Can you Identify What is an Ultrabook and What are The Models Available

February 10, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

We have heard raves about this type of PC but exactly what is an Ultrabook and what are the models available? In terms that the general population can understand an Ultrabook is the Window’s alternative to the Macbook Air. These personal computers are only considered as Ultrabooks if they meet five distinctive criteria. The first Ultrabook defining characteristic is the speedy startup. It should only take at most 7 seconds from a hibernate state to keyboard interaction. Next, it is powered by Intel, no AMDs here unfortunately. The third characteristic is improved security. This brings to the table Intel’s Identity protection and Anti-Theft technology which the Ultrabook has to support. The fourth requirement is the extended battery life. Ultrabook batteries should last at least 5 hours. Last but definitely not the least beloved characteristic in Ultrabooks is its thinness of at most 0.82 of an inch.

Almost all of the major PC manufacturers have launched their Ultrabooks so there are definitely enough models to choose from. The HP Folio 13 is a favorite of PC magazines because of its solid performance, long battery life, and good typing platform. It might not be the most handsome model around but its reasonable price of less than $900 makes up for that. The Dell XPS 13 is not only 0.2 inches thick but also weighs just 3 lbs. plus it stays connected even in sleep mode. Another great feature of the XPS is its 8 hour battery charge but some are wary of its almost $1000 price tag. As for LG its Ultrabook entry is the Z330. If you love sleek metal exteriors then this lightweight model is for you. Don’t let its slim package fool you because the Intel iSeries processor is powerful enough for your needs. These are just some of the Ultrabooks available at present, there are still a number of Ultrabooks that will be launched later this year so keep your eyes open for new models and functionalities.
