Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay who was responsible for the site’s success has been named as the new CEO of HP replacing Leo Apotheker. The announcement was made by newly appointed Executive Chairman of the company Ray Lane on Thursday.
Leo Apotheker who replaced Mark Hurd announced his resignation just 10 months after assuming office. He restructured the company by replacing a third of the board of directors and began a process to re-brand HP as an enterprise software services company and was making plans to sell the company’s personal computer division which was purchased for over $11 billion from British software manufacturer Autonomy. Despite this HP’s shares continued to decline and lost 45.5% of its value this year, making the company one of the worst performers of the year.
It is understood that though there have been changes at the helm, there will be no changes made to the future plans of the Company with HP going ahead with the final production of the HP Touchpad in October and continues with plans to sell the PC division and halt the production of the webOS device with 525 employees of the palm division being laid off this week.

If you’re interested in preserving old photos but you don’t have the technological means to accommodate that desire, then it’s good to do some research before committing to a product. These are some items that you could find fitting.
First there is the serial card. Most are very versatile and can be used within any 32 slot. Not only are these handy for just around the house, but these will be very helpful transmitting data. They are able to provide a reliable solution for Notebooks to connect serial peripherals such as GPS receivers, serial printers/plotters, barcode scanners, digital cameras and fax/modems. Serial cards simply store data if that’s all you need it to do. It only gets fancy if you need it to—and sometimes you won’t even know it’s doing it.
Then there is the USB serial cable. These are also quite useful because most computers are built with just the USB port. However, if you’ve got an ancient camera or computer, then this cable will solve all of your problems. You can use these on modems, PDAs.
Last, there is the Ethernet serial. This is good if you want to be able to get network access without necessarily having an Ethernet cord. In addition to allowing serial devices to get networked, any host (PC Server or Workstation) without network access can also access remote serial device. Your project won’t just be able obtaining things from the past, it will be about keeping items up-to-date by staying connected with the present.
