Should you buy a netbook?

August 23, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

A netbook is a small inexpensive computer which can do many of the functions of a laptop computer, but it is ultra portable. It has its many advantages and disadvantages and its suitability depends on the purpose it is used for.

Affordability: A netbook is relatively cheaper than buying a laptop. The prices range from $300 to $600 for ones that have the tablet feature such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet Netbook.

Good for children: Because of the small size the keys are closer together and therefore makes it easier for children to use.

Light weight: A netbook would weigh between 2-4 lbs. If you travel a lot this is very convenient to carry around.
On the downside these computers are a lot less powerful than a laptop. They have less storage space and lower processing speeds. Though the specifications are sufficient to carry out day to day activities it will not be capable of handling more demanding activities such as playing high end video games.

The small size of the screen means that the user will be unable to view the whole page of the program, or would have scroll down many more times that you would on a laptop.

USB Serial Makes the Ever Changing Technology Stay Compatible.

Technology is a great thing, but it can be so frustrating to try and keep up with it all sometimes. Just when you think you are finally on the cutting edge, you realize that there is some sort of new attachment that makes your existing hardware outdated. Fortunately there are solutions that are sprouting up to help the exponential technology curve remain manageable.  USB serial technology allows you to convert almost any existing USB port into a functional input or output of any number of hardware add-ons.

USB serial adapters are more affordable than you might think. At least, the prices definitely beat that of completely upgrading all of your hardware just to stay modern for one port. Look around for yourself and see what sort of cables and adapters have come out since you bought your most recent piece of computer hardware. Be warned, you will be shocked when you learn how many new and different attachments there are already.

No worries, because serial USB technology is here to stay. While it might not be able to keep your computer relevant forever, it will at least allow you to operate in the digital world for at least long enough until you can actually afford a shiny new piece of technology. It really does seem like that technology is advancing faster than any of us can act to really utilize whatever is out there. Unless you can afford it all, you almost have to pick and choose to see what technology wave you are going to be a part of until it fades.

Here is a nightmare scenario: It is the day before your final thesis paper is due. It’s over fifty pages, and you have been working around the clock for weeks to finish it. Then, all of a sudden, your computer crashes, and you forgot to back up everything you had written. Ideally, you would call some sort of computer support, Los Angeles located ideally so you can talk to someone who is somewhat local, but it never works out that way.

Of course it never works out that way. Usually, when you call customer support, you are immediately transferred to someone over in India, who may be knowledgeable on the subject, but is incredibly difficult to understand on the phone, especially if you are calling in a panic after some sort of tragic computer accident. There is hope, however, as IT companies in Los Angeles are becoming more and more common.

This trend is not restricted to Los Angeles either. Computer services, Orange County and elsewhere are popping up all over the place. Soon, calling tech support won’t be the hassle that it once was. Instead of struggling to understand someone who sounds like they have barely any idea what your problem is, you will be able to easily communicate the issue and have it solved in an efficient and painless manner. It is also a promising venue for local jobs, as more younger folk get involved in the computer science and IT fields. The United States may once again be on top of the computer market like it once was!
